Yes but there’s also another more insidious reason. Let’s assume that most people aren’t morons, so I’m going to take the idea that it’s a complicated issue off the table. It’s actually really quite simple, the corporate elites and billionaires have a money making machine and they don’t want to turn the taps off. They are also incredibly nervous that they might be held accountable for the harm that they’ve caused and be forced to pay for it which would literally be in the trillions. So they buy politicians who will confuse the conversation and support solutions that force everyone equally, like the carbon tax, which allows them a free pass for their past harm and for the retooling of our economy.
